Wake Up! Wake Up!

Everyday Sunday | May 22nd, 2007

It had been three years since Everyday Sunday released an album, but now they're back with even more powerful tracks.  Originally from Columbus, Ohio, the four guys that make up this energetic punk rock band are improving musically as well as lyrically without a doubt.  Wake Up! Wake Up! showcases the high-energy rock that Everyday Sunday has been delivering for years, and also contains tracks with messages focused on God, life, relationships, and emotions with a Christian perspective.  This album was produced by Ian Eskelin (Krystal Meyers, Stellar Kart, All Star United) under Inpop Records.

Right from the very start of this album, Everyday Sunday proclaims their faith. The opening track, “Let's Go Back,” speaks to the many people who need to hear about God's amazing plan for their lives through a chorus that says: So tell me / What you are and I'll tell you / You're so much more / Than anything you thought that you could be.  The energy continues with the title track, calling believers to “wake up” and really live for Christ.  “Take Me Out” is a humbling conversation with God. When we hit rock bottom and don't know where to turn, God is there to get us back on track.  We need to realize how out of line we are and let Him mold us into the person He wants us to be.

Starting off with a little softer feel, “Find Me Tonight” cries out to God for help: So find me / Wherever I am won't You / Find me / I got myself lost and I / Don't think / I want to be roaming in heartache / Please find me tonight. The energy cranks up once again with “Apathy for Apologies,” a fun song with lots of catchy guitar riffs and melodies. “I'll Get Over It” starts off with a strong palm-muted guitar riff, highlighting Everyday Sunday's punk side.  Not only does this album contain tons of awesome guitar parts, but there is also some synth scattered throughout.  For example, the intro of “Now You're Gone” kind of has a psychedelic feel to it until near the end of verse one when the guitars burst into action. Wake Up! Wake Up! finishes off with two very encouraging songs. Both “Tell Me You'll Be There” and “From Me to You” emphasize that no matter what we're going through, when we're ready to throw in the towel, God is always there with His arms wide open.

Wake Up! Wake Up! is full of energetic, catchy, in-your-face songs—each with meaningful, applicable lyrics.  However, this album could use a little more variety in tempos and prominent instruments.  Nevertheless, it's an album with great lyrics, fun melodies, and catchy rhythms that flow smoothly from beginning to end. It's definitely worth the listen.

Music Testing

We rely on you, the listener, to tell us what you like so we can deliver the best music possible. Our identified core artists are those that are consistently ranked highly by a survey performed each year. If a particular song tests well, it is played with more frequency. If a song tests poorly, it is removed. Your feedback as a listener is crucial to us.

At Resound, music testing is essential to our philosophy of operation. It's your station, so you should pick the music. Every month, you will have an opportunity to participate in our in-studio music test and receive a free candy bar for your help. If you are interested in being a part of our online music testing group which will launch later this semester, email our Music Director and let us know!
