Come Undone

Jackson Waters | August 1st, 2007

Jackson Waters created a bit of buzz before their debut Come Undone was even released. Their song “Center of Attention” was featured on an episode of The CW's hit show One Tree Hill. With that being their claim to fame, many people aware of the band wondered how their full-length album would shape up.

To put it simply, Come Undone is probably the most assessable bit of pop-rock released from a new artist in 2007. Lead singer David Leonard has a unique voice that perhaps compels the listener to keep listening more than the music itself. It's not a voice to write home about, but carries the album relatively well.

As far as the music goes, pretty much every song stays comfortably within the pop-rock genre. “Give Me Amazing Grace” is probably the most explicit when it comes to the band's faith in Christ as He is the only one that can Love a wretch like me and Make a blind man see. “Come Undone” is a slightly more edgy track that builds right up to the chorus.

“Center of Attention” is the first noticeable difference in Jackson Water's formula. The song is very mellow and powered by vocal hooks opposed to instrumental hooks. Credit definitely needs to be given to Jackson Waters for attempting this method, but it may not leave an impact. The album picks up again with “Different.” One of the highlights on the album, “Different” declares Now I see everything in a brand new light / Like the brand new child with a brand new life / I know my heart there's a life inside / Cause I feel it / And I don't know where my sorrow went / And I don't care what you done with it / Cause you gave me grace to my heart's content / And I'm different.

There isn't much about Jackson Waters that feels innovative. Many of the songs sound similar and stuck in pop-rock mediocrity. Jackson Waters definitely shows potential with this release, but they've got some growing to do if they want to keep the buzz their debut has established.

Music Testing

We rely on you, the listener, to tell us what you like so we can deliver the best music possible. Our identified core artists are those that are consistently ranked highly by a survey performed each year. If a particular song tests well, it is played with more frequency. If a song tests poorly, it is removed. Your feedback as a listener is crucial to us.

At Resound, music testing is essential to our philosophy of operation. It's your station, so you should pick the music. Every month, you will have an opportunity to participate in our in-studio music test and receive a free candy bar for your help. If you are interested in being a part of our online music testing group which will launch later this semester, email our Music Director and let us know!
