Brandon Heath | September 9th, 2006
Singer/songwriter Brandon Heath went relatively unnoticed for some time after the release of his debut record Don't Get Comfortable. Although Heath has been a songwriter in the industry for years (coming from the same blend as Bebo Norman and Matt Wertz), it wasn't until recently that he got his own record deal. While Brandon Heath may not be a household name yet, his music will almost certainly be familiar to any Christian music fan.
The first sign of things to come for Heath was with his debut single, Our God Reigns. The song received a Dove Award nomination for Worship Song of the Year and Heath went on to win other minor awards, with Get Don't Comfortable getting chosen as a top album of the year by editors of CCM Magazine. However Heath still wasn't hugely known to the common folk of radio listeners and CD buyers.
Enter I'm Not Who I Was: the song resonated with listeners with its message of forgiveness and hope, admitting, I found my way around / To forgiving you / Some time ago / But I never got to tell you / ... / I was thinking maybe I / I should let you know / I am not the same. The song became an anthem for forgiveness and went on to be one of the biggest hits of 2007.
The rest of Heath's album is a seamlessly easy listen with few rough spots between start and finish. While never straying too far from an acoustic pop feel, Heath manages to sound familiar without being a bore. Upbeat highlights include Steady Now, Simple Man, Don't Get Comfortable, and the aforementioned I'm Not Who I Was. Another true delight is when Heath is able to slow it down for tracks like Red Sky and The Light.
While he doesn't sound overtly Christian on a number of tracks, Heath will have wide appeal to many fans of Adult Contemporary music. A very introspective and positive album, Heath brings music that is a comfort and to which it is a joy to listen. Many people wonder who the next Michael W. Smith or Steven Curtis Chapman will be. With Heath's debut, he's prepping himself to be an interesting voice in the area of male vocalists.

We rely on you, the listener, to tell us what you like so we can deliver the best music possible. Our identified core artists are those that are consistently ranked highly by a survey performed each year. If a particular song tests well, it is played with more frequency. If a song tests poorly, it is removed. Your feedback as a listener is crucial to us.
At Resound, music testing is essential to our philosophy of operation. It's your station, so you should pick the music. Every month, you will have an opportunity to participate in our in-studio music test and receive a free candy bar for your help.
